The opening hours for shops are generally from 10 am to 5.30 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. The largest grocery stores have longer opening hours. All stores, except for kiosks and petrol stations, are usually closed on Sundays and holidays.
Klaksvík is known for its four great yarn stores. These are Búnin, Tova, Hjá Vimu and Heimavirkið. Heimavirkið is a cooperative founded in 1986 by Faroese women. The cooperative made it possible for local women to get a profit from their handcrafts. In the handicraft shop, you can pick up traditional Faroese sweaters and other woollen goods.
The Føroya Bjór brewery in Klaksvík is the place to buy Faroese beer and soft drinks. The shop moved to a new showroom in February 2017.
